STRAMARE
The Lim Fjord Oyster Experience
Where the forest meets the sea — and the sea gives back its finest.
There is a place in Istria where a submerged canyon cuts through the hills and disappears into the Adriatic. The water is emerald, cold, and extraordinarily alive. Local families have harvested shellfish here for generations — and for a few hours on a quiet morning, it is entirely yours.
This is Stramare. A private boat, a floating platform in the middle of the fjord, oysters opened by hand while you watch, and a glass of fresh Istrian Malvasia poured before the rest of Istria has finished breakfast.
Experience Highlights
Your Private Boat A private vessel departs from Rovinj, Vrsar, or Poreč — whichever is closest to where you are staying. Your skipper knows every corner of the Lim Channel.
The Floating Platform Deep inside the fjord, we dock at a floating platform where oysters and mussels are cultivated in the cold, clean water below. You watch them pulled from the sea, cleaned, and opened on the spot — as fresh as it is possible to be.
Malvasia on the Water Shucked oysters, a squeeze of lemon, and a glass of chilled fresh Malvasia — poured on the platform, in the middle of the fjord, with steep green hills on every side. This is the taste of the pure Adriatic.
Your Istramore Chauffeur Luxury Mercedes-Benz transfer from your hotel to the departure point and back. Everything coordinated, nothing to think about.
The Fjord
The Lim Channel is unlike anything else on the Istrian coast.
A submerged river valley, protected from wind and current, where fresh water from the hills meets the salt of the Adriatic in perfect balance. The result is some of the finest shellfish in the Mediterranean — cultivated slowly, in cold and exceptionally clean water, by families who have known this place for generations.
From the moment your boat enters the channel, the pace changes. The hills close in on both sides. The water turns green. The noise of the coast disappears entirely.
You are somewhere else now.
The Platform
We dock at a floating platform anchored in the deepest part of the fjord.
Here, oysters and mussels are pulled directly from the water — not from a kitchen, not from a tank, but from the sea itself, moments before you taste them. They are cleaned and opened by hand, right in front of you, and served on ice with nothing but a squeeze of lemon.
It is the simplest possible thing. And it is extraordinary.
A glass of chilled fresh Malvasia arrives alongside — light, aromatic, the perfect Istrian counterpart to the cold brine of a just-opened oyster.
There is nowhere to be. Nothing to do but taste.
The Return
The journey back through the fjord is unhurried.
Your skipper knows when to slow the engine. The light on the water in the late morning is extraordinary — the kind of light that makes you reach for your phone and then put it back down again.
By the time you return to shore, you will have spent a morning completely outside of ordinary time. That is, in the end, what Stramare is designed to give you.

FAQs
Do I need sailing experience?
1
Not at all. Your skipper handles everything — you simply enjoy the ride.
What if someone in our group doesn't eat oysters?
2
Let us know in advance. The fjord experience and Malvasia are wonderful on their own, and we always make sure everyone is comfortable.
Where exactly do we depart from?
3
We coordinate the departure point based on where you are staying — Rovinj, Vrsar, or Poreč — so the morning begins as easily as possible for you.
What should we wear?
4
Comfortable, casual clothing and flat shoes for the boat. We recommend a light layer for the water, even in summer — the fjord stays cool.
